Made in Mainz from 23 February 1453 in Johannes Gutenberg printing shop and finished printing on 24 August 1456, the Gutenberg bible consists of two folio volumes of 322 and 319 sheets (for a total of 641 sheets, i.e.1282 pages).It reproduces the text of the Vulgate, the Latin bible translated by Saint Jerome in the fifth century, is the translation from the ancient Hebrew and Greek version of the holy book: the Old Testament occupies the first volume and a part of the second, which also contains all theNew Testament.Gutenberg devised fonts that imitated Gothic writing, the most used at the time in Germany.It is to be considered the first printed book in history.Today the work has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
